Hero 2180mm VTOL
Hero 2180mm VTOL – Long-Range Mapping & Surveillance Drone
Hero 2180mm VTOL is built for operators who expect more from an aircraft than an impressive takeoff followed by a short flight near the launch site. Vertical takeoff allows missions to begin from confined and unprepared locations, while the transition to fixed-wing cruise brings the efficiency required for covering larger areas. More mission time can be spent mapping, inspecting, and collecting data instead of preparing a runway or repeatedly stopping to replace batteries.
Its modular construction simplifies transportation, assembly, and payload changes. Interchangeable nose sections and a payload capacity of up to 1 kg allow the aircraft to be configured around a photogrammetry camera, observation system, or custom mission installation. It is a platform for teams that want the aircraft to fit the mission rather than adapting the mission to the limitations of a closed, ready-made drone.

One Airframe, Many Mission Possibilities
From large-area mapping to observing difficult-to-reach locations, Hero can be built around the work you actually need to perform. Vertical takeoff enables operation where no runway is available, while efficient fixed-wing flight helps cover extensive areas faster. Interchangeable nose sections and a payload capacity of up to 1 kg provide room for cameras, surveying equipment, and custom mission systems.
Photogrammetry and Surveying – mapping flights, orthophotos, terrain models, and documentation of large projects.
Infrastructure Inspection – observation of roads, pipelines, power lines, solar farms, and other widely distributed assets.
Agriculture and Environmental Monitoring – surveying crops, forests, reservoirs, and changes across large areas.
Observation and Security – extended area monitoring, search support, and inspection of hard-to-access locations.
Research and Custom UAV Projects – a flexible platform for universities, engineering teams, and integrators developing specialized unmanned systems.

WARNING
Hero 2180mm VTOL is a self-assembly aircraft kit. It is not supplied as a ready-to-fly drone. Depending on the selected version, it requires airframe assembly, propulsion and electronics installation, soldering, autopilot configuration, calibration, and pre-flight testing. This product is intended for users with experience in building and commissioning advanced UAV platforms.
Designed Around Efficiency
During long missions, every part of the airframe matters. The streamlined fuselage, slender wings, and V-tail are shaped to reduce unnecessary losses during horizontal flight and make effective use of the energy stored in the battery.
The airflow visualizations show how air moves around the fuselage, wings, VTOL booms, and tail. Velocity distribution and streamlines help illustrate why the aircraft becomes considerably more efficient after completing its vertical takeoff and transitioning into fixed-wing cruise. This is where Hero uses its wingspan and aerodynamic form to cover large areas during mapping, inspection, and observation missions.

What You Need to Complete the PNP Version
The PNP version includes the airframe, propulsion system, and core actuators, but a complete aircraft still requires an autopilot, GNSS module, avionics power system, control link, telemetry, and a suitable battery.
The products listed below are BZB UAS recommendations intended to provide a practical starting point when completing the platform. They are not the only possible options — other properly selected components may also be used, provided they are electrically, mechanically, and functionally compatible with the complete configuration.
The final selection should reflect the intended payload, endurance target, communication architecture, operating range, takeoff weight, and power-system design. Every component should be checked before installation for voltage, current requirements, connectors, communication protocols, physical dimensions, and its effect on the aircraft’s centre of gravity.
The Cube Orange+ Standard Set (ADS-B Carrier Board)
A proven autopilot foundation for ArduPilot-based aircraft and advanced fixed-wing VTOL configurations.
A DroneCAN GNSS receiver with RTK capability for precise positioning, surveying, and mapping missions.
Provides regulated power for onboard electronics. The final power-distribution and current-monitoring architecture should be matched to the selected avionics.
Herelink 1.1 – HD Video Transmission System
Combines an RC controller, ground station, HD video transmission, and telemetry in one ArduPilot-compatible system.
A dedicated long-range telemetry solution for projects requiring an independent and reliable bidirectional data link.
T-Drones Smart 6S 22Ah Li-Ion Battery
A battery with the same capacity used in the manufacturer’s endurance configuration. Weight, dimensions, connector type, centre of gravity, and final takeoff weight must be verified before integration.
Herelink and the RFD868x-EU represent different communication approaches and do not necessarily need to be installed together. The final setup should reflect the required operating range, video needs, mission payload, and architecture of the complete aircraft.
Frequently asked questions - Hero 2180mm VTOL
No. Hero 2180mm VTOL is a professional self-assembly platform. KIT mainly provides the airframe and structural hardware, while PNP adds the core propulsion system, ESCs, servos, UBEC, and wiring, but avionics installation and configuration are still required.
KIT provides maximum freedom to select propulsion and electronics. PNP adds the cruise motor, four VTOL motors, five ESCs, propellers, four servos, UBEC, and wiring package. Both versions are supplied as parts and require assembly.
Hero 2180mm VTOL PNP requires an autopilot and suitable carrier board, GNSS receiver, power-management and monitoring hardware, RC receiver, telemetry system, airspeed sensor, and an appropriately selected 6S battery. Final component selection depends on payload, takeoff weight, endurance target, and communication requirements.
Yes. Hero 2180mm VTOL is designed for topographic mapping, land surveying, engineering surveys, precision agriculture, construction planning, and environmental monitoring. Its interchangeable nose can support an orthophoto or oblique-imaging configuration.
No. The 144 km figure is the distance travelled during the 136-minute mapping endurance test. RC, telemetry, and data-link range depend on the separately selected radio system, antennas, terrain, interference, and applicable operating restrictions.
Yes. The manufacturer provides ArduPlane-related files, example servo functions, ArduPlane 4.4.4 parameters, and a SITL model tested in RealFlight. These resources are a starting point rather than a substitute for checking servo directions, propulsion, center of gravity, sensors, failsafe settings, and VTOL-transition parameters on the completed aircraft.
